Trooper Kurt Kelm was conducting a commercial vehicle inspection on IH 45 in Leon County.  While inspecting the trailer, Trooper Kelm fell through a rotten board on the deck of the trailer.  This caused Trooper Kelm to fall, striking his face on the edge of the semi-trailer.  Trooper Kelm suffered a severe injury, including numerous broken bones to his face.  He is currently in ICU and awaiting the swelling to his face and eyes to decrease to have re-constructive surgery.  He will have a long road to recovery as several surgeries are expected.

The DPS Troopers Foundation has started a Help a Hero campaign to assist Trooper Kelm and his wife and children while he is in the hospital. His wife is pregnant with their third child. Help A Hero charges a fee up front, 100% of funds raised will go to the family.

If you are able, please help. Keep Trooper Kelm and his family in your prayers for a speedy recovery.
