Law enforcement officers give their community their all to keep our community safe no matter the call. However, recent events in southern Nevada have heavily impacted our officers.
On November 30th, two Nevada Highway Patrol officers, Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix, were struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver while responding to an incident on I-15. Less than a week later, officers confronted and neutralized an active shooter at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), saving the lives of numerous students on campus during a time of extreme fear, unknowns, and public panic.
These calls and all others that our officers face bring about behavioral and mental health challenges that can and will linger for some time, but the Las Vegas Police Protective Association (LVPPA) is stepping up to help our officers on the front lines.
We’re partnering with The Law Enforcement Assistance Foundation (LEAF) to provide support and aide to our local officers. LEAF is dedicated to supporting the lives of fallen officers’ families and making sure they are always remembered. From supporting the children of fallen officers and paying the full cost of college for them while in school, LEAF makes sure the families are supported at every milestone in their lives. From birthdays and Christmases to graduations and weddings, LEAF is there for them. They also proudly distribute six $5,000 scholarships to children of police officers every year.
Your donation helps continue these great programs are ensure they’re properly funded so our fallen officers and their families are taken care of, allowing our law enforcement officers to focus on keeping our community safe.
