On April 28, 2026, Civilian Response Unit (CRU) Officer Edward Zapata was

responding to what should have been a routine call when a subject opened fire causing

serious injury to CRU Officer Zapata, who is now facing multiple surgeries and will

require time to heal and recover.

A retired Marine and former DFW PD officer who has spent most of his life protecting,

serving, and helping others chose to serve his community by joining the Fort Worth

Police Community Response Unit. Now it is our turn to do the same for him.

While he is expected to recover, he will face several challenges on his path to recovery

including unexpected financial obstacles. We are asking for donations to help CRU

Officer Zapata and his family during this time.

Every donation and prayer serves as a reminder that CRU Officer Zapata and his family

are not alone in this fight.

Thank you for your incredible kindness and for standing with CRU Officer Zapata during

this challenging journey. Fort Worth Strong

I’m terribly sorry this happened to you. I just wanted to personally tell you how much respect I have for the courage, valor, and bravery you showed during such a dangerous situation. The fact that you remained calm under pressure and acted selflessly to help save a female’s life speaks volumes about your character.

To Sgt Major Zapata, I’ll never forget your leadership while you were my Sgt Major with 3rd LAR in 29 Palms. Especially when you took us on a 9 mile run during LCPL Seminar course while you were leading from the front while the rest of us were trying to keep up with you. Wishing you a speedy recovery and Semper Fi!
