In January 2026, Trooper John Westerman lost his nearly five-year courageous battle with cancer. Throughout that fight, John showed the same strength, resilience, and determination that he carried in uniform. He was not only a dedicated Trooper — he was a devoted husband and father.

John leaves behind his wife, Carol, and their three beautiful children, who now face life without him by their side. No family should have to walk that road alone.

The DPS Troopers Foundation is raising money for the Westerman family to help with their expenses during this battle with cancer. If you are able, please donate. Help a Hero charges a fee up front, 100% of funds raised will go to the Westerman family.
