"Sterling Shelton is a husband, father of two, and a Texas Rangers SOG Staff Sergeant in Company "C". Sterling began experiencing symptoms that were initially believed to be related to heat stroke, but after evaluation, it was determined that Sterling had a 6cm tumor located on the left side of his brain.
Sterling underwent his first surgery on July 21, 2025, and was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Astrocytoma, a very aggressive form of brain cancer. Since his diagnoses, Sterling underwent treatment at an integrative cancer clinic in Mexico called Hope4Cancer. Unfortunately, he had a recurrence that started growing quickly, causing significant swelling in his brain and more symptoms to surface. He underwent a second craniotomy on November 26, 2025, as well as a Gamma Knife procedure performed on January 8, 2026. He now plans to continue treatment at UT Houston for 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
Sterling is the true definition of determination, grit, resilience, and strength. He pushes his mind, body, and spirit through intense workouts and ultra-running. He is always pushing everyone around him to work hard and be strong, he is the face of determination!
Sterling is always the first person to lend a helping hand to those around him. There is no task that is too big or small; he will always show up. It is now our turn to show up for him and BE STRONG FOR STERLING.
The DPS Troopers Foundation has started a Help-A-Hero campaign to assist Sterling with expenses related to his medical treatment. If you are able, please donate. Help-A-Hero charges a fee upfront, 100% of funds raised will go to Sterling to assist with his expenses traveling to Houston as well as any medical costs.
Please continue to pray for full healing and recovery!"
