On Thursday, January 13, 2022, Detective Andrew Wilkiewicz was enjoying lunch at a local restaurant in Downtown Milwaukee when he observed a subject attempting an armed robbery of a female door dash employee that was picking up food. The female had run into the restaurant after she recovered a cell phone from one of the armed robbery suspects that dropped it while trying to steal her car. The subject began to wrestle with the female and Detective Wilkiewicz immediately took action, identified himself as Police and wrestled the subject to the ground in an attempt to arrest him. The subject presented a firearm and fired several rounds at Detective Wilkiewicz striking him several times in the stomach. Detective Wilkiewicz returned fire, but the subject was able to flee and get into a waiting vehicle, which was stolen earlier in the day. Detective Wilkiewicz was rushed to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and immediately went into surgery. Thankfully the bullets that entered his body narrowly missed his artery and several major organs. He is currently resting and is on a long road to recovery. This incident will cause a loss of income to Detective Wilkiewicz during the several months he will be recovering. Two of the three subjects have since been arrested; however, the shooter is still on the run. Please donate what you can to aid this young Detective.
