Kelly was a Texas state trooper for fifteen years, and he loved every minute of it. It was the dream of his life.

He worked wreck after wreck on I-35 out of Hillsboro, and if you know Kelly, you know he wrote tickets. He'd write his own wife one. His son will tell you he'd get two. Black and white, fair every single time, and the first man to go out of his way for anybody who needed help.

When brain cancer forced him to retire, it broke his soul. Now he has spent weeks in the hospital with meningitis his doctors call the worst case they have ever treated. It has been a terrifying roller coaster, and it isn't over. But he is fighting. Some days he opens his eyes when we ask, or wiggles his fingers.

This fund will help with medical bills, rehab, lodging, and getting our family through the hardest thing we have ever faced. To the troopers who have held us up: thank you. You are standing with Kelly the way he stood with people on the worst days of their lives.

The DPS Troopers Foundation is raising money to assist the Merriman family with their medical costs. If you are able, please donate. Help A Hero charges a fee up front. 100% of the amount raised will go to the Merriman family.

Your continued prayers are appreciated.
