Brett Michael Harris was born on 4/25/1996 in Suffolk, Va.  He graduated from Great Oak High School in 2014, where he met his wife, Myreia, in 2012; they became the best of friends and later started dating his graduating year; they enjoyed so many things together, such as comics, video games, love for animals, and musical theater which she came to enjoy because it was a great passion of his. They also came to love their differences but shared the same love and compassion for helping others which also led to Brett obtaining a Criminal Justice Degree from CSUSM in 2018.  Brett and Myreia married in the fall of 2019 and graduated from the Riverside Sheriff Academy later that year; soon after, he went to the Cois M Bryd Detention Center as a correctional officer until he was sent to patrol in January 2022 with the Hemet Station. Brett loved serving his community; apart from his work, he also was involved in programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Explorers Program, which taught kids who had an interest in law enforcement. He also would volunteer his time to read to his sisters' 2nd-grade class and come into her school to talk with kids. He did this right up until his on-duty traffic collision that took his life. Brett was a hero to so many during his short time here, but he will live on in many others and continues to save lives through his organ donation.

Deputy Harris' loved ones, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, and the Riverside County Sheriffs’ Association, thank you for your support, prayers and donations for the Harris family.

Officer Harris was a kind soul, a hard worker and one of my daughters favorite people. My daughter was in mental health crisis during the time he served our town. She's a teen with autism and other mental health conditions. Officer Harris always knew how to calm her down, just his presence made her day. They would play a quick game of tic tac toe. He would check in on her to see how she was doing, she even wrote him letters. I want to send our condolences to the family and fellow officers.

I’ve also suffer the agony of losing my son. I remember how so many people I didn’t know paid their respects and provided support to my family and me. I was also at RUHS the day this young man was draped in our flag, left the hospital in honor, followed by his loved ones. May God’s Grace, Mercy, Peace, along with your family and friends love help you all in your life’s new journey.
