On December 10th, the ASU Police Department lost a former sergeant in a tragic vehicle accident.

We are heartbroken over the sudden loss of retired Sergeant Al Phillips.  From 1985 to 2012, he was a staple of our department and beloved member of our community.  Over his 27 year career, he touched many lives and left a lasting legacy that will never be forgotten.

Retired Sergeant Al Phillips was an amazing employee, person, and friend.  He always had a smile on his face and would make people feel at ease and comfortable.  He will be sorely missed as he was taken way too soon.

ASU PD Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 80, along with the Mesa Lodge 9 of the Fraternal Order of Police, has a strong commitment to assist members in times of need with direct benevolent and financial assistance. Your financial support through Help-a-Hero will go directly to funeral costs and related expenses for the family.

I am so sorry you lost your dad, husband, sibling. I did not know him, i just know how hard it was to have my dad pass away to cancer and your situation made my heart hurt. I hope you find some peace and some joy.

Our paths crossed with Al many, many times. A person who genuinely cared about people and made this world a better place. We'll miss your smile and how you make the day better for anyone you saw. RIP, friend.
