Officer Joseph Montgomery was a wonderful person, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He was also a good cop, treating everyone he met with respect, dignity, and objectivity. Joe’s life revolved around his family. Joe and his wife Sandra were high school sweethearts and have been together for 35 years. He was a dad that showed up for all his kids, attended their events, and supported them in every aspect of their lives. Joe was a Police Officer for over 34 years. He always gave and never asked for anything in return. He was one of the most selfless human beings we have ever known and has been a tremendous loss for his family, friends, and community. Joe is survived by his wife Sandra, his 4 children, Allison (Allie), Brett, Seth - wife Kylie, Natalie, and his 3 grandchildren, Brielle, Sesily, and Adaline.

I was shocked and saddened when I heard the news. Joe was a good friend and past co-worker at MPD where we worked together for approx. 14 years. I don't have the words that will help sooth this awful situation. There will be a void left in his family that will never be filled. All I can say to his family is be strong.

Joe was a wonderful person and a dedicated father. I’ll miss working with him but I’ll miss our conversations most. He was one of the most dependable individuals I’ve ever met and he was extremely proud to be a father and grandfather. Rest easy Joe. You are missed brother!
