Jaice is 7 years old and in second grade at Harborview Elementary School on James Island, South Carolina. He’s a vibrant, opinionated, and energetic little boy that can make you smile and laugh at the first moment you meet him. He loves football and basketball, singing & dancing, Ninja Turtles & Power Rangers, Pokémon…especially Mewtwo. He loves food, especially Alfredo pasta and anything with shrimp in it.
Jaice’s life has never been a walk in the park. From the age of 2 months old to 2 years old, he has endured a lot of surgeries that one adult probably won’t have in their life time. Shortly after his 2nd birthday, he received a new heart and then was later released from the hospital. Our family has been busy trying our best to make sure Jaice lives a happy normal life. We still maintained his countless doctor appointments, which he passed with flying colors. Everyone loves Jaice. His presence brings everyone joy.
Fast forward to today, things started going down hill when Jaice started losing weight mid last year; even though he eats like crazy at home. His body mass index had a big drop, which his GI doctor prompted us to take him in get admitted so we can figure out his weight loss situation. So here we are, 3/28/2024, back in the hospital for weight loss concerns. Then he was hit with the Nora Virus (GI Bug) on day 2 of being admitted. Since we’ve been here, Jaice has completed over 30+ blood draws, numerous CT Scans & X-rays, 1 MRI, and 4 procedures that required him to be sedated (NG tube placement; PICC line placement; Bronchoscopy, Endoscopy & Colonoscopy; 2nd Bronchoscopy w/NG tube removal and PEG tube placement). The doctors saw spots on his right lung and right kidney. Biopsies were taken, but still waiting on results. He is currently still getting nutrients through his feeds & antibiotics periodically throughout the day. His body has been through a lot and he’s definitely not his vibrant & talkative self anymore.
Fire family, friends, and strangers. Firefighters never want to ask for help when we need it, but I humbly ask for your help and support for our fellow Johns Island Fireman! Any donation will help Jaice and his family focus on getting well and coming home!
