On Friday, January 13th, 2023, Deputy Darnell Calhoun made the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to all as he was called upon to serve and protect his community. Deputy Calhoun's career as a Deputy for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department began in February of 2022 after serving as Police Officer for the San Diego Police Department.

Deputy Calhoun’s character as an encourager, a protector and a mentor embodied the Service Above Self pride of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. His relationship, love and service to Jesus Christ emboldened his impact on the many walks of life he encountered.

Deputy Calhoun, 30, was a husband, a father of two young boys (ages 2 and 4), and a third baby boy on the way. Darnell loved and served Jesus with his church community joyfully. He will be remembered as a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a son-in-law, a brother-in-law, and a loyal friend.

Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the Children of God. Matthew 5:9

Deputy Calhoun’s loved ones, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and the Riverside County Sheriffs’ Association, thank you for your support, prayers and donations for the Calhoun family.

This donation is for the Officer’s family, and donated in memory of fellow Temecula resident, Wyatt Martin, who also lost his life on Feb 9, 2023. His family designated the Officer’s family for anyone wanting to help because Wyatt was so affected by their story. God Bless both families for their tragic losses.
